Developed in the mid 1930's

Originally 26 acres and named Whispering Pines, the property was developed in the mid 1930’s as a summer retreat for the Scripps/Howard Newspaper family. It later sold in the ‘50’s and again in the 70’s, and was home to an old Tahoe family for nearly three decades. Four parcels were divided and The Pines is the result of the two most magnificent parcels on Lake Tahoe’s shores. The Guest House was built in 1996 and the Main Residence built in 1998. Today, The Pines is one of Lake Tahoe’s largest privately held estates and without question, one of the most remarkable

Laid-Back Nevada Lifestyle

Upon entering The Pines you are directed past the caretaker’s house towards the water through magnicently landscaped grounds which include a three hole golf course with practice green, swimming pool and spa, waterfalls, a covered bridge, trout ponds, and gigantic granite outcroppings. There are 2 private buoys and boathouse with 27’ slip, shared pier and approximately 400' of sand beach. The property consists of a main residence, guest house, second guesthouse or caretaker’s home, detached garage building/current gym and shop. There is room for expansion for an additional three holes of golf or coverage available for a tennis court and sports pavilion. A private recreational beach easement is in place for the two adjoining properties. Water rights consist of 12 acre-feet and a well, which services all three houses at The Pines.

The Entry leads to the lakefront LIVING ROOM with dramatic 35’ Douglas fir ceilings. A double-sided natural granite, ceiling-to-floor fireplace with two staircases on each side make this room the heart of this warm and welcoming home. The staircase railings are artistically created of wrought iron made by a master craftsman. Custom designed Zeluck windows, engineered to withstand 120 mile an hour sustained winds without leakage are used throughout. All windows are mahogany clad exteriors with cherry interior trim. Dramatic steel beams wrapped with chiseled wood and rustic cherry flooring accentuate the vastness of this room. On the backside of the Living Room is a circular alcove, which has an inviting SPA ROOM with two story window walls. The LAKEFRONT DINING ROOM with fireplace has built-in cabinetry, and adjoins the butler’s pantry and wine room. A POWDER ROOM is just off the dining room.
